This Week’s Notices

Open Church-Sunday afternoons: We are hoping to keep the church open on Sunday afternoons during the next 4 months. We need volunteers to do this either 1pm-3pm or 3pm-5pm. Please sign at back of the church. Thank you Libby 07956 655 037

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK Many thanks to everyone who baked for our Bring and Buy cake stall last Sunday and to all who helped make it such a success by buying the cakes. The cake sale alone raised nearly £200, which is almost enough to raise a dwelling in Bangladesh above the height of the floodwaters and make life safer for a family. If you have a completed Christian Aid envelope, could you return it to church by THURSDAY 2 JUNE. You can either leave the envelope in the box at the back of church or post it into the church letterbox.

St Mary’s Family & Children’s Minister: The PCC decided at its recent meeting that, having invested for three years in a full-time Family and Children’s Minister, it would be ending this post when Asi Munisi’s contract comes to an end in mid-September. Regrettably, the cost of such a post (£90,000 over the three years) makes it difficult to sustain at the moment. Simon has written to all the Junior Church parents expressing our gratitude to Asi for her work over the past three years and expressing the PCC’s commitment to ensuring that we continue to serve our children and families as well as we possibly can.

Revd. Peter & Alison Wintgens: If you would like to contribute to Peter and Alison’s leaving gift, please send your donation directly to the Parish Office (marked “Peter & Alison’s Leaving Gift”). Alternatively you can do the same via the Sunday collection.

Farewell Party: On Sunday 24th July there will be a leaving and picnic party after the 11am service in the Church and Churchyard. Details soon. Save the date!

Sunday Morning Study Group: The Sunday Morning Group will be following a six-week course on the Lord’s Prayer starting on Sunday 5th June. The course is part of the Church of England’s Pilgrim Course designed to deepen and strengthen our relationship with God. This course is also very suitable as a stand-alone exploration of how Jesus taught us to pray.  Everyone is welcome to join this course on Sunday mornings between 9.30 and 10.45am in the Crypt. There is a sign up form at the back of the church or contact Colin Wimsett for further information.

Sound System & WiFi: Our new sound system will be installed in early June. Free wifi will also be available in St Mary’s very soon.

The Queen’s 90th Birthday: There will be a special Choral Evensong service giving thanks for Her Majesty’s long life on Sunday 12th June at 6.30pm. The Preacher will be Sven Tester, who was present in Westminster Abbey on Coronation Day 1953.

Sunday Sermons in Ordinary Time: Over the next few months, our sermons will focus on the Epistle readings, which means by the end of the summer we will have read through much of Galatians, Colossians, Hebrews 11-13, Philemon and 1 Timothy.

“A Night at the Opera”: St Mary’s Choral Scholars and their friends in the choir will be performing a concert of operatic music in church on the evening of Friday 24th June. This will be in aid of fundraising for next year’s Choral Scholarships. Details soon.
