 Advance Notice: Advent Sunday 1stDecember

During the refurbishment of St Mary’s, the priest and people of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Battersea have offered us generous hospitality for our weekday eucharists and other practical help. In planning our Advent Services, we had anticipated that the building work would not have advanced as far as it has, and as a result Sacred Heart invited us to hold our Advent Carol Service on 1stDecember at 6pm at their Church.

This service, which will be a performance of Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah, with appropriate readings, will therefore be held at Sacred Heart, and will give us a chance to thank them for their generous support of us during this period.

Please do invite your friends to this special event.

The 11am Service on Sunday 1stDecember will be our next Invitation Service, a Christingle Service.

This Week’s Notices

Tonight at 6.30pm: Special Service of Prayer about Climate Change: Whether or not you’re a supporter of Extinction Rebellion, all Christian people need to be praying about climate change and the massive effects it is having on our world. Come and join in prayer tonight.

Walsingham: Around 70 pilgrims, 20 from St Mary’s, are going to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham on Saturday. For pilgrims, we meet at 7.45am for a prompt 8am departure on Saturday, returning around 7pm. In the week of the canonization of John Henry Newman, we make a special purpose of prayer for Christian Unity.

Hatta Hodson RIP: There will be a Memorial Service for Hatta at St Luke’s Battersea(Ramsden Road SW12 8RQ), on Friday 15thNovember, time to be confirmed. Hatta will be privately cremated on Monday 4thNovember.

Summer in the Square 2020: A group met earlier this week and has agreed to take initial steps towards running a second Summer in the Square event next June(date to be confirmed). If you are interested in joining the planning team – we need a few more volunteers – please contact Simon soon.

November Invitation Service: Hymns & Pimm’s: If you would like to choose one of the hymns to be sung at this service on 3rdNovember – and would be willing to say why you’ve chosen it in the service – please fill out one of the slips at the back and put it in the letter box by the steps as you leave. Invite your friends!

Community Christmas Day Lunch: Would you like to help put on a fantastic Christmas Day lunch for members of the community who would otherwise be on their own, or who cannot afford to celebrate Christmas? Please speak to Aaron or Simon to register your interest in being part of this team. Please note: this is notthe same event as the long-standing Rotary Christmas Lunch in Battersea Park, and is mainly aimed at our church community and those they know. It will be a much more modest affair!

November Bible Studies: Aaron will be holding a series of four bible study evenings on Monday evenings in November. These will be a great chance to explore the biblical roots of community organizing. The sessions will be on Monday 4thNovember and the following three Monday evenings at 7.30pm at 298 Trinity Road, SW18 3RG.

Glass Door Winter Night Shelter: Please contact the Office to sign up for the large team of St Mary’s people who have volunteered to help in welcoming homeless guests on Saturday evenings over the winter, from 9 November to early April.

November is our month to consider our financial stewardship to St Mary’s for the coming year. Please be thinking about your commitment, especially if you are not yet a regular giver. Next Sunday’s services will have a Stewardship theme to get us thinking about the issues.
