Battersea Communities Listening Campaign in Surrey Lane has begun, and so far it has been a surprisingly fascinating and fun experience. We are gathering information that may play a significant role in whether or not a new community centre is built on the Surrey Lane estate. You are invited to participate this Sunday afternoon, from 3.00 – 5.00pm, at Salesian House, 47 Surrey Lane. Future dates: today, 13th and 20th of October.
Refurbishment Update: We are pleased to say that the scaffolding will be coming down this week. The Georgian communion table is currently being restored and polished and the communion rails will be taken away this week for restoration.
This Week’s Notices
Glass Door Winter Night Shelter: Please continue to sign up for the large team of St Mary’s people who have volunteered to help in welcoming homeless guests on Saturday evenings over the winter. There are many roles and the coordinators are about to prepare a rota. We anticipate a maximum of one Saturday evening per month will be the frequency of volunteering. Sign up at the back. The Night Shelter will run from early November to the end of March.
Hatta Hodson: We were sorry to hear the news that Hatta has had a serious stroke while staying at her house in Cirencester. She is currently being cared for at Cheltenham Hospital. Pray for her, the family and also for the Boulters (former curate and his wife, Hatta’s daughter) currently working in Madagascar.
Summer in the Square 2020: A group met earlier this week and has agreed to take initial steps towards running a second Summer in the Square event next June(date to be confirmed). If you are interested in joining the planning team – we need a few more volunteers – please contact Simon soon.
November Invitation Service: Hymns & Pimm’s: If you would like to choose one of the hymns to be sung at this service on 3rdNovember – and would be willing to say why you’ve chosen it in the service – please fill out one of the slips at the back and put it in the letter box by the steps as you leave. Invite your friends!
Community Christmas Day Lunch: Would you like to help put on a fantastic Christmas Day lunch for members of the community who would otherwise be on their own, or who cannot afford to celebrate Christmas? Please speak to Aaron or Simon to register your interest in being part of this team. Please note: this is notthe same event as the long-standing Rotary Christmas Lunch in Battersea Park, and is mainly aimed at our church community and those they know. It will be a much more modest affair!
Citizens UK: An Open Meeting: St Mary’s is going to consider rejoining Citizens UK in the coming months. Citizens UK is the leading promoter of community organizing in the country and, to help us find out more, have any questions or concerns answered, and to say what you think, come to an Open Meeting on Wednesday 16thOctober in the Choir Vestry. More details: [email protected]tersea.org.uk
Felicity Prazakis hosting an exhibition of her art as part of Wandsworth Artist Open House over the first two weeks of October. Further details at the back of church or direct from Felicity ([email protected])
Community Organsing Bible Studies: Aaron will be holding a series of four bible study evenings on Monday evenings in November. These will be a great chance to explore how this apparently modern idea has roots in Scripture. More details soon.
