Advance Notice: Advent Sunday 1stDecember
During the refurbishment of St Mary’s, the priest and people of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Battersea have offered us generous hospitality for our weekday eucharists and other practical help. In planning our Advent Services, we had anticipated that the building work would not have advanced as far as it has, and as a result Sacred Heart invited us to hold our Advent Carol Service on 1stDecember at 6pm at their Church.
This service, which will be a performance of Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah, with appropriate readings, will therefore be held at Sacred Heart, and will give us a chance to thank them for their generous support of us during this period.
Please do invite your friends to this special event.
The 11am Service on Sunday 1stDecember will be our next Invitation Service, a Christingle Service.
This Week’s Notices
Hatta Hodson: There will be a Memorial Service for Hatta at St Luke’s Battersea (Ramsden Road SW12 8RQ), on Friday 15thNovember, at 3.00pm. Hatta will be privately cremated on Monday 4thNovember.
Glass Door Winter Night Shelter: to volunteer, please contact the Office to sign.
November is our month to consider our financial stewardship to St Mary’s for the coming year. Alongside the regular giving review, about which Simon will be writing to you, this year we are asking for a special collection to put the finishing touches to our refurbishment, and in particular: Restoring & Cleaning the Church’s Memorial Stones:
Minor Repairs and Polishing of the 18thCentury Communion Table, Cleaning of the Sanctuary Tiles. The PCC funded the refurbishment (some £350,000) thanks to the generosity of past parishioners which is represented by our reserves, but we would like to invite members and friends of St Mary’s to contribute directly to these works, so that the current congregation can make its own gift to this once-in-a-generation project. We will have a Gift Day on Sunday 24thNovember.
November Bible Studies: Aaron is holding a series of four bible study evenings on Monday evenings in November, beginning tomorrow at 7.30pm at 298 Trinity Road, SW18 3RG. These will be a great chance to explore the biblical roots of community organizing.
Our Remembrance Sunday Service is next Sunday. Please note the service begins at 10.45am and you should be seated by 10.40am. The Borough Armistice Day Service is on Monday 11th November at 10.45am at the War Memorial in Battersea Park.
Our Annual Memorial Service, when we remember those we have loved and lost in the past year, will be combined with a special Blue Christmas service this year on Sunday 15thDecember at 6pm. A peaceful service for anyone who has lost a loved one recently, or for anyone who finds Christmas difficult.
Our Advent Sunday Evening Service will be a performance of Part 1 of Handel’s Messiahand will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Trott Street. If you would like to sing for this event, and you are not a choir member, you are welcome to do so. Please contact James: [email protected]
