Glass Door is a London-based charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by homelessness. Guided by the belief that no one should have to sleep on the streets, Glass Door provides a lifeline for those in need, regardless of their background or circumstances. Operating year-round, the charity offers advice and practical support through trained caseworkers at partnering drop-in centers. During the winter months, Glass Door runs emergency night shelters, with rotating circuits across Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Wandsworth, offering safe spaces for up to 105 guests nightly.

Glass Door’s values are compassion, dignity, and inclusivity. Unlike many services, they require no extensive paperwork or proof of local connection, ensuring their doors remain open to everyone. Guests are welcomed with warmth and treated with the integral value every individual deserves. By partnering with churches and community centers, Glass Door not only provides shelter, but fosters a sense of stability and hope for its community.

The charity’s work is made possible by the combined efforts of volunteers, donors, and community organizations. Together, they are creating a future where no one is left to sleep on the streets.

To help Glass Door achieve its mission, St. Mary’s Church partners with the charity, and churches within the community to provide emergency services to those struggling with homelessness. St. Mary’s Church actively collaborates with Sacred Heart Church and the Katherine Low Settlement (KLS) to assist Glass Door in its life-changing work. Fundraising for Glass Door is a significant focus for the church, as well as hosting events such as the annual Glass Door Sleep Out. Sponsored ‘Sleep outs’ one of the ways that the Charity raise much needed funds and each year on a specific night, co-ordinated Sleep Outs are held at town squares, churches, schools or back gardens. At St Mary’s, participants sleep outside in the Churchyard, to raise awareness and funds for the charity through personal and congregational donations. In 2024, £1,573 was raised through the Sleep Out to support Glass Door’s operations. In previous years, volunteers from St. Mary’s have been involved with the night shelters, cooking meals and helping serve Glass Door’s guests, as well as set up tables, and share meals with those in need, while creating a welcoming environment.
