What’s Your Duty as a Child of God?

Ask yourself, as I sometimes ask myself, “What is my duty as a child of God?”

Ask yourself, as I sometimes ask myself, “What is my duty as a child of God?” This is a million dollar question, but with a simple answer. My duty is first and foremost to love God, then to love each other as we love ourselves. This includes friends, relatives and even enemies, if we have any.

When I think about it, I really wonder how I can live without love. Even a simple thing like asking others, “How are you today, my dear?” is often enough to show you care. However, many are living without anyone asking. This is not right.

We have to love ourselves first before loving others. With love we radiate health because our whole system is in a serene state with our hormones functioning well. Our thoughts will also be good because we have handed over ourselves to God, who is love. God now controls our emotions. Now we are seeking for peace, and with peace our bodies do not go rioting.

Have you thought of dancing as you listen to music as one of your daily exercises? To me, as Shakespeare said in ‘Twelfth Night’, “If music be the food of love, play on, give me excess of it.” I find that classical music is fantastic, keeping me relaxed and forgetting all my problems.

The Beatles said, “Life is very short, and there’s no time for fussing and fighting my friend.” in their song “We Can Work it Out.” I agree with that. Everyone of us must strive to be at peace with ourselves and with one another, regardless of race or creed.

If you have a problem, verbalise it. Call for help. Your GP, Social Worker or church personnel are there to help with concrete advice. We must all try to live in freedom and peace so that we can extend our love to others.

God is love. God’s hands are forever being stretched out as God calls, “Come unto me all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28). Time is passing quickly and God’s not asking for any payment for this service. God’s not tired of waiting for us. Why delay?

There is a purpose for each of our lives on earth. We should aim to achieve that purpose. We should each pray to God, recognising that we are all imperfect, but want to turn over a new leaf. It’s never too late. Lets give God any emotional or spiritual baggage we have been carrying and free ourselves to love with Jesus’ help. Stop being at a crossroad and take God’s road to salvation and freedom.

May God be with us always in this journey. And remember to sing the song found in the church hymnal, number 389

Fight the good fight with all your might,

Christ is thy strength and Christ thy right…
