We will be celebrating Harvest on Sunday 27th September & following on from our successful appeal last year donations will go to the Wandsworth Foodbank. It is part of the Trussell Trust’s UK -wide food bank network which provides emergency food to thousands of people nationwide every day.Frontline professionals such as doctors & social workers give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis . These are then exchanged for 3 days of food– essential items such as breakfast cereals ,tinned meat & fish, soup, rice & pasta plus long- life milk & juice. Made me think what my family get through in 3 days .
Foodbank volunteers — many of whom Emma Belak ( whose initiative alerted us to this amazing project) & I have met over the past year plus are amazing! Budgeting & housing advice plus much more is on offer. Our local centre is St Marks Church on Battersea Rise who help us un- load our cars with the weekly collections from the back of Church to assembling & distributing parcels . So helpful & appreciative.
So please celebrate Harvest & all we have to be thankful for in our daily lives. But please also spare a thought for those who struggle to feed their families or indeed the isolated who have little to eat plus coping with loneliness.
The Foodback particularly needs the following items
Tinned goods eg soup, baked beans, meat , fish eg tuna, fruit& vegetables
Jars of pasta sauce
Dried foods eg breakfast cereals , pasta & rice
Long- life milk & fruit juices
Tea & coffee
Nothing goes to waste– volunteers ensure this!
So please come with armfuls of food on the 27th !
If you cannot contribute at Harvest-time don’t worry . There is a collection box at the back of Church ( opposite side to the lift ) where you donate at any time
If you would like to know more about the Foodbank scheme please don’t hesitate to talk to Emma or myself
