NEWS FROM THE BELFRY
We have been managing to ring the bells on Sunday’s over the last few weeks despite the heat, out little fan has been working overtime!
St. Mary’s Battersea continues to be active in the bell ringing community locally. We recently hosted a meeting of the Surrey Association’s Young Ringer’s group to enable them to practice prior to taking part in a national competition. The competition held at the beginning of July saw us take a young team into Central London which included Thomas and Charlie Wickham. Louis Benne also joined us for the afternoon section which included ringing at Bow and Southwark Cathedral!
The St. Mary’s Battersea team also took part in a competition held at St. Mary’s Barnes which we won! We are a tower with trophies!
As a group we continue to be involved with bell ringing in the locality, helping other churches teach ringing to help keep towers alive and thriving. Bell ringing is an excellent way to encourage individuals into the wider church community when formal church may not feel comfortable for them. Battersea has a strong and supportive reputation in this.
Plans for Armistice Day this year continue nationally. It is hoped to get as many churches ringing bells at the same time on that day. Frantic teaching continues under the umbrella of the Ringing Remembers campaign details below for those interested.
Feel free to come up and see us in the tower!
