Hunger Stalks the UK

A report from Wandsworth Foodbank

A report from Wandsworth Foodbank

On 8 December we were privileged to be invited to the launch in Parliament of the Feeding Britain report by the All-Party Parliamentary Inquiry into Hunger in the UK, led by Frank Field MP and Archbishop Justin Welby.

We’d submitted our Wandsworth Food Poverty Report to the inquiry earlier this year, and it’s been used with research from around the country to take a close look into why people use food banks.

Benefit changes and delays, harsh sanctions (where some or all of a benefit payment is stopped for weeks), low wages and insecure work, and the rising cost of housing, food and fuel were revealed as key factors driving more and more people to need help from food banks – both in Wandsworth and nationally.

Channel 4 news came back with us to our newest Foodbank centre in St Michael’s, Southfields on Monday to take a closer look at what we do and who we’re helping. You can watch it here.
