As part of their 125th anniversary celebrations, our friends at Sacred Heart Battersea are holding a Parish Mission in October 2018 Sacred Heart have warmly invited St Mary’s to join them in as much of the mission as we wish, and I have been involved in some of the planning of the week, with two events taking place at St Mary’s itself.
What is a Parish Mission?
A Parish Mission is a season of events designed to encourage renewal and deepening of faith. For Roman Catholics there is a particular emphasis on encouraging Catholics to return to the life of the Church; for we who are Anglicans, that can also be part of our intention and prayer as well, but the general opportunity to have a season of faith renewal is most welcome.
There is usually a Mission Team or Missioner involved in leading a Parish Mission and Sacred Heart have invited Father Roy Shelly, Pastor of St Joseph of Spreckels Catholic Community in the Diocese of Monterey in California to be the Missioner. The focus of the mission will be a series of services in the evenings of the week of mission, in which our clergy will also be involved, and to which everyone is invited. However, a special invitation will be issued to those involved in specific ministries in our respective churches. This is the purpose of this note to you.

The Invitation to St Mary’s
Our Roman Catholic friends have made a special effort to include and invite St Mary’s to be part of this week of events. On behalf of Fr. Gerry and the parish family of Sacred Heart, I also add my desire that we share this week of mission enthusiastically.
It’s not often we get the opportunity to re-evaluate and reflect like this on our faith journey. Please do take the opportunity to encourage everyone to come along during the week.
