Editor’s Notes

Editors notes on the newsletter

May was the month of elections. Not only did we vote for Members of the European  Parliament and local government officials, but we also elected members of our own  Parochial Church Council, Deanery Synod representatives and other church officials.
We had a lot of reading and listening to do to help us make our decisions. There were many words written and spoken during the lead up to elections.
That made me recognise how important words are to us as Christians. Some Christians refer to the Bible as the word of God. Jesus is called the Word made flesh in the gospel of John. The book of Genesis tells us that from the beginning ‘God said…’
We can learn about God from reading the Bible, listening to sermons, reading spiritual books and communicating with other Christians about how God has acted in our lives. We pray, mostly using words and we tell other people about our faith, often using words as well.
This newsletter is just one of the communications we at St. Mary’s use to express what we believe to be our faith. The articles inform us as to what is happening in our church life. This month, we even have a new section in which a response to a newsletter article is published. I am pleased about that, as dialogue in church is, I believe, a good thing. I often approach members of the congregation asking for articles, not simply to fill up pages in the newsletter, but to give readers a wider understanding of who St. Mary’s is as a complete entity. I am always grateful for articles from any member of the congregation, especially if we all learn something about another aspect of our wonderful church family here.
Please feel free to submit new articles, or to respond to anything in the newsletter.
Words, especially healthy, lively, productive and encouraging words, are the basis of good communication. As long as we are constructively communicating, I think it is a good thing.
I look forward to your articles…
Praise God!
