Singing Carols is perhaps the quintessential Christmas activity. There are a number of opportunities to do that with St Mary’s this December.
Carol Singing in the Square: Carols in the Square is a popular event and takes place on Tuesday 6th December at 6.30pm in Battersea Square. The restaurants and bars usually take the opportunity to serve mulled wine, there are usually one or two surprise guests and there’s often some fireworks. A great community event for all the family.
Carol Singing at Care Homes: We are expecting to be singing carols at Meadbank and possibly Battersea Place and Joan Bartlett/Mary Court on the afternoon of Saturday 17th December. It is always very moving to see people with dementia find memories again through the words of the familiar Christmas Carols and readings. Details of the meeting time and place will be available in Church and on the website in the next week to ten days.
The Parish Carol Service will pick up the theme of the moment this year and will be entitled Hope in Uncertain Times. It will take the traditional format of a carol service, with readings from Scripture, congregational and choir carols and a brief sermon. The preacher this year will be Father Gerry O’Shaughnessy, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Sunday 18th December at 6.30pm.
St Mary’s Choir Carol Singing: The Choir do a charity fund-raising sing around the bars and restaurants in Battersea Square and High Street just before Christmas. It’s a very informal affair. Anyone is welcome to join in. Meet at Church on Wednesday 21st December at 8.45pm.
