A summer update from St Mary’s Bellringers

Bell Ringers

At All Saints Kingston to help Phillip Krinks celebrate his ordination in to the priesthood

The ringers continue to beaver away up in the tower.

Our learners continue to improve. Rex is now ringing on his own unaided. Charlie and Tom are also, but need a minder nearby just in case they get tired. All three have gained their first badge in our learner’s training scheme. Billy continues to stand on all the boxes in the tower and chime the service bell before the 11am Sunday morning service! All of them are an asset to the team!!

On July 4th some of the Battersea ringers joined forces with the ringers at All Saints Kingston to help Phillip Krinks celebrate his ordination in to the priesthood. With 12 bells there (as opposed to our 8), it was a challenge which we all embraced making the bells ring out over the town centre.

In the afternoon of that day, a team of 6 of us entered a striking competition at Oxted in Surrey. We were up against ringing teams from other towers. Teams taking part all ring for a set period of time and are marked on how well we strike the bell by a judge sitting outside the tower. We came 2nd to the delight of us all!

Striking competition Oxted – 2nd overall!

The Ridley family attended Windsor Castle for Chris to formally receive his OBE for services to public finance and campanology. It was a wonderful day, although the Princess Royal did remark that it was an unusual combination!

We will to continue to ring on Sunday mornings over the summer despite being in reduced numbers. Do pop up to say hello and see what we are up to.
