TUESDAY 29 APRIL at 8.00PM
This is a reminder about the above event – an important milestone in the church’s life each year, when we take stock of what happened in the past year and look forward to the future. So the first thing I want to do is encourage you to take an interest and attend the meeting !
The other thing is to inform you that there are vacancies on the Parochial Church Council (PCC), as well as in our representation on the Deanery Synod (DS).
For the PCC there are two vacancies. You have to be on the Electoral Roll (the official membership list of St Mary’s) in order to be eligible for a place on the PCC. Members are elected for three years, and can be re-elected for a further three years, after which you have to stand down.
There are also several vacancies in our representation on the Battersea Deanery Synod (DS). This is the next level (after individual PCCs) of representation in the Church of England (C of E). The DS elects some of its members to the Southwark Diocesan Synod, which in turn elects members to the General Synod, which is like the parliament of the C of E. Currently St Mary’s has just one of its members, Emma Belak, to represent us on the DS, and she is happy to continue and also to speak to anyone who might be interested in standing. In the past we have not given the DS a sufficiently high profile, however in view of the above it is important to have committed representation of more than just one person. DS members from St Mary’s automatically have a place on our PCC.
Bishop Christopher has made “Breathing new life into Deaneries” one of his three priorities for his Episcopal ministry: Deaneries are entering a new phase and need fresh ideas.
Please give these opportunities some thought, and speak to one of the Churchwardens or to Simon on his return if you are interested.
