The Thursday Groupis becoming the Advent Group, offering a short course during Advent, and then another after Christmas for 4 weeks in the Epiphany season, using a book called Waiting and Watching by Joyce Huggett.  Everyone is welcome(the books are free) and we would especially welcome people who may not have tried a home group before or would like to commit to only a few weeks at a time. Sign up for either one or both of the 4 week courses at the back; it would really be helpful if you could sign up on the sheet so books can be ordered. The group meets from 1.30pm – 3pm on Thursday afternoons in the upper vestry – with biscuits and real coffee provided! Contact Leslie ([email protected]).

Lighting Project: The PCC is moving ahead with the plans to relight the church following agreement at last week’s meeting. Full details of the entire project and the redecoration project are on the plans in the south aisle.

New Hymn Books: The PCC was glad to receive a bequest from the late Diana Goodwin, which are be used to replace the long-standing New English Hymnalwith a more contemporary, yet traditional Common Praise. We shall begin using this book from Advent Sunday. The remainder of the bequest will be use to update, repair or replace, the dilapidated Church Road noticeboard.

An Appeal for our Syrian Family: Battersea Welcomes Refugees, a project of Battersea Deanery Churches, housed its first refugee family in Culvert Road recently. They are now in need of warm, waterproof clothing for their three sons, 6, 5 & 3 as well as the parents themselves. They were able to bring very little from Syria and only have summer clothes and the boys keep getting ill and have to stay inside when it rains. While the father is learning English, he is unable to seek work and they have no money to buy things. The family are lovely, but clearly traumatised, and are trying hard to integrate. If you can donate, good quality, second-hand children’s clothes, please contact Serena Cox ([email protected]). Thank you.
