Treasurer Needed for Wandsworth based charity

Sound Minds is a small friendly user led mental health local charity based in Battersea.

Sound Minds is a small friendly user led mental health local charity based in Battersea. The enthusiastic trustee group would welcome someone with a head for figures together with a passion for improving mental health. Sound Minds is celebrating 25 successful years for which the foundation has been a strong user involvement ethos at all levels of the organisation.

The trustees support the CEO and staff and also ensure that the charity stays on track, fulfilling the activities described in its constitution. The trustees also fulfil their obligations as Company Directors, ensuring that the charity is compliant all relevant legislation and is managed effectively and safely. As a minimum, the treasurer will check over spreadsheets and financial plans compiled by the CEO. Depending on experience the Treasurer may be able to independently advise the committee on the financial implications of their key decisions and produce forecasts. The friendly Trustees group meets monthly on a Monday early evening in Battersea and the role will require a minimum commitment to this meeting and occasional evening or daytime meetings with the CEO.

Our Trustee group will benefit from someone with solid experience with figures and accounts to provide the necessary checks and balances to the work of the CEO and bookkeeper and to help the committee plan financially. Previous experience as a committee member or trustee would be welcomed, but not essential. Previous experience in a similar role in a commercial company would also be helpful, or as would a qualification in business or accounts. The committee will benefit from someone who can map out the financial implications of the important decisions ahead and ensure that the organisation remains viable and effective.

Sound Minds is an exciting and pioneering charity with an impressive record of successful innovation. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the workings of the charity, mental health, the arts, peer support and how to integrate these elements to make a difference to the people of Wandsworth and surrounding boroughs.
