St Mary's 250th Anniversary Works

Although the parish of St Mary's Battersea dates back to the ninth century, the current church building is much newer. Built in 1777, it will be celebrating its 250th birthday in 2027. We want to make sure the building and all its fabric is in good shape for the next 250 years of life here in Battersea.

To this end we’re embarking on a diverse programme of works

An external lighting project which will see the visible from across the Thames, and much needed lighting along the churchyard paths making them safe for all users.
The redecoration of the portico, restoring the pillars, doors and railings to their Georgian splendour.
Essential maintenance works on our bells and their fittings, which were last properly cleaned and maintained in the 1930s.
An upgrade of our church’s audiovisual system, making it fit for purpose and events in church accessible for all.

All together we expect these works will cost upwards of £250,000. We are therefore looking to raise one thousand pounds for every year the current church building has stood.

How can you support this campaign?

No matter what you can give, we need the support. Every penny counts.

I want to give a one-off donation.
Could you give £1000? We need to raise a thousand pounds for every year of the church building’s history. Could you sponsor one of those years? Email [email protected] to arrange a donation.

I want to give a larger one-off donation.
If you would like to give a larger amount, particularly if you would like to give it in support of one strand of the works, or in memory of someone, we suggest you get in touch with us to discuss.

I am part of a grant making group or other philanthropic organisation and would like to sponsor these works in a larger way.

Upcoming fundraising events

FOUR WINDOWS WALK 27 June

Walk with us or sponsor us as we undertake this walk in support of SM250 Appeal. We will be taking in locations linked to the four stained glass windows on the north and south walls of church, including Chelsea Physic Garden (William Curtis), St Paul's Cathedral (JMW Turner), Bunhill Fields Burial Ground (William Blake) and 62 Gloucester Place (Benedict Arnold).
