Katherine Low Settlement (KLS) is a vibrant community organization based in Battersea, that has been working to support local residents since 1924. Its mission is to foster community cohesion, reduce social isolation, and empower individuals from all walks of life to lead fulfilling lives. KLS provides an array of services aimed at tackling poverty, supporting vulnerable populations, and building strong community connections. Programs include support for older adults, English language classes for refugees and migrants, mentoring and youth development initiatives, and activities for people with disabilities.

The organization collaborates with local partners, including charities, schools, and churches, to address key challenges facing the community. For nearly a century, KLS has been a lifeline for individuals facing hardship, offering practical assistance, emotional support, and opportunities for personal growth. Its Battersea headquarters serves as a hub for local events and projects, fostering a welcoming space where neighbors can connect and thrive.

As a charitable institution, KLS depends on the generosity of donors, volunteers, and fundraisers to sustain its impactful work. Through its inclusive and compassionate approach, Katherine Low Settlement continues to play a vital role in transforming lives and strengthening the Battersea community.

St. Mary’s Church and Katherine Low Settlement (KLS) have strong links through their longstanding partnership in supporting the Battersea Community and the impactful work that KLS does. This close partnership and support is shown through a number of ways. The Vicar of St Marys is part of the Trustee board of KLS and indeed the past vicars of St Marys have been involved in various ways with KLS since the 19th Century. The Church and it’s members both support and participate in KLS fundraisers: to name some, KLS 100 Carol Concert, KLS Steps Challenge, KLS Tough Mudder by sharing updates and encouraging donations, or participating themselves to raise funds. A key part of the broader fundraising that the Church supports is highlighting contributions to the Christmas match fund, which benefits children’s programs as well as highlighting the need for increased regular donors to sustain KLS’s vital services. Key community events like Carols in the Square that are jointly run through KLS and St Marys further strengthen ties between St. Mary’s and KLS, celebrating their shared commitment to the local community. St. Mary’s also helps recruit volunteers for KLS’s ESOL classes, and the elders’ tech program, and initiatives such as the homework club, online mentoring, and career planning support for individuals from refugee backgrounds. Additionally, the church invites the community to follow KLS on social media and sign up for their monthly newsletter to stay informed. Through its involvement, St. Mary supports KLS’s mission, fostering a culture of compassion, generosity, and support for those in need.
