Christian Aid is a global movement of individuals, churches, and local organizations dedicated to ending poverty and injustice. Based on their values of dignity, equality, justice, and love, the organization works to transform lives and create meaningful change through their Christian values. For over 75 years, Christian Aid has worked alongside local partners and governments in 29 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America supporting vulnerable communities. The organization’s efforts cover key areas such as gender inclusion, humanitarian response, peacebuilding, climate adaptation, and governance and rights. Christian Aid helps fight for rights of healthcare and education, as well as combating discrimination and providing economic opportunities. Founded by British and Irish churches, Christian Aid offers a practical way for individuals to live out their faith by dedicating time and resources to transformative causes. Churches and community groups play a vital role in supporting the organization through fundraising and awareness efforts. By combining long-term initiatives with emergency response work, Christian Aid brings hope, dignity, and lasting positive change to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

St. Mary’s Church actively supports Christian Aid through an annual Christian Aid Sunday service, held during the second week of May. During this dedicated week, the church raises awareness and funds for the charity during the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. Presentations on behalf of Christian Aid representatives are shared to inform the congregation of the charity’s work, detailing how the funds raised are used, while showcasing achievements from previous years. A video accompanies these talks, to emphasize the understanding of Christian Aid’s mission. This year, St. Mary’s Church raised £2,000 during its Christian Aid Sunday Event. Beyond the dedicated services, members of the congregation engage in creative fundraising events such as cake sales, plant sales, book sales, and even bible read-a-thons. This year the congregation was led on a walk around the parish boundaries, combining local history with information about Christian Aid. Promotional materials such as envelopes and banners are often distributed, with resources available on Christian Aid’s website. St. Mary’s encourages its congregation to volunteer and think of creative ways to fundraise to expand their impact. Christian Aid Week remains the focal point for St. Mary’s efforts towards Christian Aid, highlighting their commitment to the charity’s vital work.
