St Mary’s Battersea will, for the third year running, take part in the Glass Door Winter Night Shelter project in 2021-22. Alongside fellow Christians from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, members and staff at the Katherine Low Settlement (KLS) and other local volunteers, we will host up to 30 homeless guests on a Saturday evening at KLS from November to March.

Homelessness remains a blight on many people’s lives and Glass Door offers a floating night shelter every winter to provide guests a warm place to sleep, a proper healthy meal and a warm welcome from hosts. Churches, synagogues and mosques across West London take part in various circuits offering hospitality to some of our most vulnerable fellow citizens.

St Mary’s welcomes the involvement of anyone with goodwill in their hearts to partner with them in this venture. Cooking, coordinating and simple volunteering are all roles that can be undertaken. Proper training will be given and Glass Door always have professional staff in each venue to support the volunteers and to guide them. This year, in the light of the pandemic, extra precautions will be in place to keep both guests and hosts as safe as possible.

If you would like to find out more, or would like to volunteer, simply email [email protected] and someone will be in touch.
