O Lord our Heavenly Father, Almighty and Everlasting God, by whom kings reign and princes decree justice: We remember before thee our late Sovereign Lady QUEEN ELIZABETH, in thankfulness for the blessings which thou hast bestowed upon us by her reign; for the example she set of unwearied devotion to duty; for her steadfast courage; and for the love and loyalty borne to her by a great family of peoples in all parts of the world. And we beseech thee to give us grace that, having these thy mercies in remembrance, we may with one heart and one mind set forward the welfare of this land, and hasten the coming of thy kingdom of peace and goodwill; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Following the announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, churches around the country are offering opportunities for communities to gather together in worship and thanksgiving, and for individuals to visit churches for private prayer and commemoration. You are welcome to visit St Mary’s for any of these reasons, whether you are a Christian, a doubter, a person from another living faith background, or a person of no faith at all.

On Friday 9th September at noon, the church bells will ring as a mark of respect for the Late Queen.

St Mary’s Church is open from noon to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday 10th and 11th September, as well as the advertised weekday opening hours. There will be opportunities for private prayer, the leaving of flowers and the writing of messages of condolence.

Services on Sunday 11th September will all have a focus on expressing our sadness, gratitude and trust in God following the death of such a wonderful and faithful servant of the nation and of her Saviour. The services are as follows:
