THIS WEEK’S NOTICES
Everyone Campaign 2016: If you have not brought your Pledge Card back yet, please do by next Sunday. Thank you to all who have.
Kate Bishop RIP: We are sorry to report the peaceful death of Kate Bishop, at the age of 95. A Memorial Service is being planned for the New Year.
New Seasonal Service Books and Sheets: Simon is trialling a different approach to service literature for the coming liturgical cycle. As you will see there is a special Seasonal Service Book for the Season of Advent, which will be used each Sunday until Christmas (don’t take the booklets away), accompanied by this sheet containing service details and notices for all services. If, after a few weeks’ trial you have any comments on this matter, please do get in touch with Simon. But please give it a try first! The chief ‘driver’ of this approach is to cut costs and save clergy time.
Christingle Service: Sunday 11th December at 4.00pm: Come and join in this special Service of Light, receive a Christingle and support the work of the Children’s Society.
Please note: The Christingle Choir will now rehearse during the Eucharist.
Advent Sunday Evenings: This year, in place of Evening Prayer on Sunday 4th & Sunday 11th September, Simon will lead us in two Advent Musical Meditations, with words for reflection and recorded classical music. 6.30pm each evening.
Carol Singing: We will be Carol Singing at Meadbank on the afternoon of Saturday 17th December, and possibly also at either or both of Joan Bartlet House/Mary Court and the Care Wing of the new Battersea Place. If you would like to join us, please watch out for more details. Royal Hospital on West Hill Wandsworth – Some choir members are carol singing round the wards from 7pm to 8pm on Thursday 15.12 -as we have done for the last 70 odd years. If anyone would like to join us; all are welcome – details from Bob Cooles 020 8870 3091.
The Parish Carol Service on Sunday 18 December at 6.30 pm will be followed by the traditional mince pies and mulled wine. To make this happen, we need your help, baking mince pies, brewing the mulled wine, serving the goodies or washing up – please sign up at the back of church. No experience necessary and newcomers to St Mary’s especially welcome! Or if you would like to contribute to the cost of the wine, please speak to Sarah Macnab 07788 723 717.
An Advent Suggestion: A Reverse Advent Calendar: Why not join many others doing something different this Advent. Instead of (or alongside) the typical Advent Calendar, why not put a box aside and place a food store cupboard item (or something equally useful) in it each day. At the end of the Advent Season, then bring your box to church and we will donate everything collected to our local Food Bank.
Parish Giving
Envelope/Standing Order Coordinators: Chris & Erica Sage([email protected])
Our budget in 2016 requires us to collect £2,000 a week from direct giving, envelopes and weekly cash collections. Please think if you can increase what you already give or become a regular giver. The Church of England teaches that all that we have belongs to God and, and as a sign of that we are invited to give back to God the first part of what we have coming in, a generous offering. As a guideline and as a target to work towards, we are encouraged to give 5% of our income to our Parish Church and 5% to other good causes (the biblical tithe). As a guide this is what 5% of income looks like. If your earnings after tax are:
£5,000 a year or £96 per week 5% = £5 a week
£10,000 a year or £192 per week 5% = £10 a week
£20,000 a year or £385 per week 5% = £20 a week
£30,000 a year or £577 per week 5% = £30 a week
£40,000 a year or £769 per week 5% = £40 a week
£50,000 a year or £960 per week 5% = £50 a week
£75,000 a year or £1440 per week 5% = £75 a week
£100,000 a year or £1920 per week 5% = £100 a week
Everyone 2016-17
