The Week Ahead at St Mary’s

Sunday 2nd December First Sunday of Advent (Year C Begins)
8.30am Holy Communion (Traditional Language)
11am Parish Eucharist for Advent Sunday. The Flower Group will

be holding their Christmas Stall today, both in the morning and after the Advent Carol Service; there will be delicious edible items and also Christmas wreaths and table decorations.

6.00pm Advent Carol Service: This is a great way to begin the Advent season; carols, poetry and scripture readings.

Study and Home Groups at St Mary’s

Sunday Morning Group 9.30am in the Crypt (led by David & Evalyn)
Tuesday Home Group 8pm at a parishioners home (led by group members) The Thursday Group begins meeting again on 29th November, and will be an Advent Group, where others are warmly invited to join for a few weeks before Christmas.

Please enquire of the clergy or the Parish Office for more details. These groups welcome new members

Songs on an Autumn Afternoon: The Friends of Battersea Parish Church are holding a fundraising concert this afternoon at 3.00pm. Susanna Hogan (sop) and Stephen Maugham (Piano). Tickets: £15 from Bob Cooles or on the door.

Choral Evensong is at 6pm tonight: the last such service of the year. We shall be using the New English Hymnal for the last time before using our new Common Praisehymn books from next Sunday

page16image5018928The Thursday Group is becoming the Advent Group, with a study course, Watching & Waiting beginning this week.. Everyone is welcome (the books are free) and we would especially welcome people who may not have tried a home group before or would like to commit to only a few weeks at a time. Sign up at the back. The group meets from 1.30pm – 3pm on Thursday afternoons in the upper vestry – with biscuits and real coffee provided! Contact Leslie ([email protected]).
Christingle Service: This is the 50th anniversary of the Children’s Society ChristingleService and our special service for children and adults will take place on Sunday 9thDecember at 3.00pm. Everyone is very welcome. Fundraising envelopes and other items are available from Libby Bradshaw ([email protected]).

The Junior Church Nativity Play will be on Sunday 16th December at the 11am service. There are lots of parts for everyone of all ages, as well as four familiar carols to sing. Rehearsals will be Sunday 2 December (instead of the First Sunday upstairs) and then Saturday 15 December 10-12am. Please let Cal Alphonse know if you are able to be involved [email protected] or tell one of the leaders at Junior Church in the next few weeks.

The Parish Carol Service on Sunday 16 December at 6.00 pm will be followed by the traditional mincepies and mulled wine. To make this happen, we need your help, baking mincepies, brewing the mulled wine, serving the goodies or washing up –please sign up at the back of church. No experience necessary and newcomers to StMary’s especially welcome!

Fancy a spot of quiet meditation on your way to work? Aaron is starting an early morning weekday meditation group aimed at those commuting through the churchyard, and is keen to get a couple of people alongside to help them, ideally working people themselves.
