This Week’s Notices
Important Notice About Safeguarding: Anyone who has a role which involves potential contact with children and/or vulnerable adults – leaders of study groups, Junior Church Leaders and Welcomers especially, are now asked by St Mary’s Church Council to undergo some basic safeguarding training. If you would like to attend, and have not yet booked, there are only a few places remaining. Please email Simon directly ([email protected]), requesting a place on a first come, first served basis. Simon will confirm your place at the end of May.
Ascension Day 30thMay: There will be an evening Eucharist and party on Ascension Day which will be an opportunity to thank our Choir and Bellringers for all their work for us. The service will be at 7.30pm.
Sunday 2ndJune: ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ Sunday: We shall be joining in this growing international progamme of prayer for mission instigated by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The 11am First Sunday service will have a special prayer focus: come along and invite your friends!
First Sunday Invitation Service Planning: We are planning to introduce themed Invitation Services on First Sundays beginning in the autumn; if you would be interested in helping plan ahead for those, there will be a brainstorming/planning meeting at Church on Tuesday 4thJune at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome: email Simon at [email protected]
Confirmation Preparation: If you are an adult and might be interested in being baptised and/or confirmed, please contact Simon as soon as possible.
Pilgrimage to Assisi: This will now take place in the week commencing 30thMarch 2020, just before the schools break up for Easter next year. More details soon, including a brochure. In the meantime, we are planning to hold an ecumenical day pilgrimage to Walsinghamin Norfolk with our friends from Sacred Heart Church.
Advance Notice: On Sunday 30thJune, our 11am service will be Choral Mattins, in place of Holy Communion. This will be a rare chance to worship in this form of service that was the mainstay of the Church of England for centuries – it’s the morning equivalent of Choral Evensong. The speaker will be Prudence Dailey, Chair of the Prayer Book Society. Holy Communion will be celebrated in the evening that day.
Getting involved on a Sunday: St Mary’s always encourages newer folk to feel able to use their gifts in different ways; so if you would like to read the Scriptures in church, lead the prayers, sing in the choir help welcome people to church, serve coffee or assist with Junior Church, just let one of the Welcomers with the badges know and they will put you in touch with the organisers.
