Battersea Communities Listening Campaign in Surrey Lane has begun, and so far it has been a surprisingly fascinating and fun experience. We are gathering information that may play a significant role in whether or not a new community centre is built on the Surrey Lane estate. You are invited to participate this Sunday afternoon, from 3.00 – 5.00pm, at Salesian House, 47 Surrey Lane. The last two dates are today and next Sunday.

November is our month to consider our financial stewardship to St Mary’s for the coming year. Please be thinking about your commitment, especially if you are not yet a regular giver.

 This Week’s Notices

The flowers this week are donated by Carmeta Jackson in celebration of the arrival of her great grandson, Malakhi.

Hatta Hodson: We are sorry to have to tell you of the death of Hatta, following her strokes last week. She died peacefully in hospital after a lifetime of Christian service, especially in recent years to the LGBT+ community and their parents. Funeral details – to be held at St Luke’s Battersea – to follow. May she rest in in peace and rise in glory.

Next Sunday: First Communion at 11am. Lottie Povey Donohue, Mackenzie, Issabella & Kaeden Patel, Victoria and Vincent Fayomi, Marli Maloret, Louis and Dylan Benne  will be admitted to Holy Communion. Come and support them and their families. Our visiting preacher is Bishop Tim Thornton, Bishop at Lambeth.

Next Sunday Evening: Our service next Sunday evening at 6pm will be a special service focusing on prayer about climate change and the associated challenges. Come and pray in One World Week.

Summer in the Square 2020: A group met earlier this week and has agreed to take initial steps towards running a second Summer in the Square event next June(date to be confirmed). If you are interested in joining the planning team – we need a few more volunteers – please contact Simon soon.

November Invitation Service: Hymns & Pimm’s: If you would like to choose one of the hymns to be sung at this service on 3rdNovember – and would be willing to say why you’ve chosen it in the service – please fill out one of the slips at the back and put it in the letter box by the steps as you leave. Invite your friends!

Community Christmas Day Lunch: Would you like to help put on a fantastic Christmas Day lunch for members of the community who would otherwise be on their own, or who cannot afford to celebrate Christmas? Please speak to Aaron or Simon to register your interest in being part of this team. Please note: this is notthe same event as the long-standing Rotary Christmas Lunch in Battersea Park, and is mainly aimed at our church community and those they know. It will be a much more modest affair!

Citizens UK: An Open Meeting: St Mary’s is going to consider rejoining Citizens UK in the coming months. Citizens UK is the leading promoter of community organizing in the country and, to help us find out more, have any questions or concerns answered, and to say what you think, come to an Open Meeting on Wednesday 16thOctober in the Choir Vestry. More details:[email protected]

Community Organsing Bible Studies: Aaron will be holding a series of four bible study evenings on Monday evenings in November. These will be a great chance to explore how this apparently modern idea has roots in Scripture. More details soon.

Memberswill be pleased to hear of the birth of Lucy Mary Silverman to Katy (our former Organ Scholar) and Matthew Silverman, on Sunday 6thOctober.
