A One Day Workshop on the Common Good.
Aaron will be running an exciting new workshop designed by Together for the Common Good, on Saturday, 16th February, from 9.30am – 4.00pm. It will help us learn how we can become a community of the common good, fit for the 21st century, through our individual vocational responsibility, and alongside others with different gifts, backgrounds and views.
Spaces are limited to 20.
Email [email protected] if you are interested.
As we begin to explore the idea of a Rule of Lifeat St Mary’s, we are offering a number of opportunities to find our more of what is involved in the coming weeks before Lent. The next opportunity is over a bring-and-share Parish Lunch after the 11am service this morning, and then over a light breakfast after the 8.30am service on Sunday 17thFebruary or just before Lent on the evening of Monday 4thMarchat 7.30pm. If you want some idea of what a Rule of Life is, please see ruleoflife.org.uk.
Our Winter Recital Series continues today at 3pm with a short concert of music given by our Choral & Organ Scholars. Light refreshments, free with a retiring collection.
Junior Church (and friends!) Pancake Party: This will be held on Shrove Tuesday, 5thMarch, in the after school slot. All the usual pancake fun, plus an opportunity for children to find out about Ash Wednesday and the custom of ashing at the beginning of Lent. Please let Debbie Apostolides know numbers ([email protected])
Lent begins on Wednesday 6thMarch with Services at 7.30am at 8.00pm. Further details of Lent at St Mary’s will be available soon.
Lent Groups 2019: This year’s Lent Groups will be again shared jointly with Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and will be based around the powerful BBC TV Drama ‘Broken’, which aired last year, with Sean Bean as an inner-city priest facing personal and moral crises in himself and his flock. Because the programme airs for an hour over six parts, the Lent Groups will be six weeks long this year, and will last 2 hours, allowing for a good time for chat and discussion. Please sign up at the back of the church as soon as possible. Please note: The Sunday group will begin before Lent on Sunday 3rdMarch, 6pm to 8pm, in place of Evening Prayer.
Possible Trip to Assisi in October: A number of people have expressed an interest in a pilgrimage to Assisi and it may be possible to organise a few days there in the middle of October – but probably not in half-term week owing to flight costs. If you would like to express a “no firm commitment yet” interest, but have not yet done so, please let David know in the Office, or contact Hatta Hodson ([email protected]) who is taking names.
We wish to welcome Susan Bourkewho has joined us as Parish Secretary. Please come into the office and say hello. Susan works on a Monday and Friday mornings
