The greatest of all acts of Christian worship throughout the year, the Easter Vigil begins in the churchyard as a bonfire is lit and we kindle the Easter flame. The newly-lit Paschal Candle is carried into church, an ancient hymn, The Exsultet, is sung and God’s mighty from creation to the promise of salvation in Christ are retold through readings, psalms, hymns and prayers. We then celebrate the resurrection with the ringing of bells, the acclamation of new life and the singing of the Gloria. As God’s redeemed people, we reaffirm our baptismal vows, and recommit ourselves to discipleship. We share together in the First Eucharist of Easter.
A Party follows in the Crypt.
