CALLING ALL GOLFERS
For the past 80 years Southwark clergy golfers have enjoyed meeting together to play on well known courses. In particular there has been a long and happy association with Tandridge Golf Club. A team of up to 20 clergy have enjoyed wonderful hospitality in the annual Spring matches against the Club. Its course has also been the venue for the keen Autumn competition for the Harry Lloyd Cup.
Sadly, the number of clergy golfers has declined to the point where a rethink about the future of the Southwark Diocesan Golf Society has become essential. The outcome is that in future the SDGS will include all in the Diocese who wish to join and play.
The inaugural meeting of the re-launched SDGS will take place on Monday 29th September at Bletchingley Golf Club. It received the 2013 award for “Surrey Golf Club of the Year” and the attractive course is a fine test of golf.
There will be an afternoon Stableford competition for the Harry Lloyd Cup and other prizes, to be presented to the winners by Bishop Christopher. Tee off times will be between 12noon and 12.45.pm. This will be followed by a full cream tea and prizegiving. The cost will be £29.95. per player. (£11.95. for members of Bletchingley Golf Club). Entries will be accepted on the basis of first come; first served though priority will be given to those with an active club handicap.
