Learning for life & Christmas is coming!

News from Asi Munisi Families & Children’s Minister

Recently during our Toddler Praise session I was prompted by my interaction with two of our toddlers to reminisce of when my children were that age and what a joy it was to watch them develop. It’s so exciting when children begin to form proper words and identify people, animals, objects and colours.¬† It brings great joy to hear a child match the correct word with a picture.

I had decided to become a life long learner, as it’s really interesting to explore new ideas and hear about new ways of thinking. Some of you may be aware that a few years ago I took over the running of the Pan African Book Foundation, a charity founded by my Father Shadrack Munisi. The original aim was to have under one roof all books by African authors, and then later to help what might be described as backyard schools, rural African schools to gain access to books. I introduced an annual celebration of Africa, as part of Cultural Diversity Month in London. This year I was in the wonderful position to be able to combine my work, by inviting the Westbridge choir to perform as part of the celebration. It was a challenge to get them all to the venue, which was Christ Church East Dulwich, but the three that did come, gave such an amazing performance, giving all they’ve got, actually the best I’d seen them. Nicci, Precious & Teah were awarded with certificates for their outstanding performance at the Westbridge Primary prize giving assembly on Friday 24th October 2014. It is important to reward great effort and I was also reminded at how much learning can be done from experience, and this experience stretched both the choir and me, building confidence and belief.

Christmas is coming!
We look forward to Carols in the square and the Westbridge Choir has also been booked to sing at Dimson Lodge for the Christmas residents luncheon on Tuesday 16th December 2014.
Before that I hope you will join us for our Christingle Service on Sunday 7th December 2014 at St Mary’s, 3pm. This year the live band with Aine Kennedy on piano and Froilan Legaspie on guitar will return with Friends in Concert leading the singing. It promises to be a great celebration of Christ as the light of the world for all ages.Kind regards,

Asi Munisi
