A few weeks ago I was at the train station on my way to Balham. While I was in one of
the stores before going to the platform, I was beckoned by a friend and we started a
conversation. Although I was in a hurry, I always have a friendly smile and asked what I
could do for him.
He had lost his 25 year old son almost a year before. He talked about his son and I
comforted him by telling him that nothing happens without God’s knowledge. Life is very
unpredictable and nobody knows what tomorrow will bring.
His son had died in unexplained circumstances. He had lived a rough life and never
took warnings seriously. He thought the warnings were meant to deny him the joys he
sought in life. Obedience to the 10 Commandments should be our guide and we should
be prepared to answer God’s call at any time.
We know from John 3:16 that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten
son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. However,
my friend’s son did not consider God’s destiny for him or that God had work for him to
do on earth. Life is moving very fast and is full of mystery, but death is inevitable.
My friend told me that 9 different organs from his son were used to help others live. I
was able to reassure him that his son had saved the lives of 9 others through his own
death. That was remarkable and a blessing. All 9 were doing well. My friend has also
noticed a great change in the lives of his remaining family.
I bid him goodbye and God’s protection.
What will be your legacy ultimately? Are you prepared to answer the call at any time?
Heaven is our Home Sweet Home; we are just pilgrims on earth.
May God grant us happiness to wait for the great reunion with him. Amen!
