Harvest Appeal

Carol Bailey writes about this year’s donations to Wandsworth Foodbank

St Mary’s Harvest Appeal

This year our Harvest appeal sopported the work of Wandsworth  Foodbank . It seemed the right charity to support as we have  fairly recently started a weekly collection in Church.

Hopefully you will be aware of the large basket at the back of  Church —–the opposite corner to the lift ——where donations of dried goods can be left . This is all due to the initiative of Emma Belak.

As ever the congregation were very generous with their donations. Thomas’ Kindergarden joined our appeal resulting in my driving two car-loads of goods to St Marks Church on Battersea Rise where the food parcels are  assembled  &distributed. The staff there were so helpful & appreciative ——I was so impressed with the scheme.

Wandsworth foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s UK-wide foobank network. This helps local Churches & communities to open foodbanks, providing emergency food to thousands of people nationwide every year. Frontline professionals such as doctors & social workers give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis .The vouchers are then  exchanged for 3 days of food. Foodbank volunteers also offer support & advice to clients .
Thank-you again to every-one who donated ——-all those tins of soup & boxes of cereal will help to  make a difference to those in need . And remember, you can continue helping by including a few extra items in your weekly shop & putting them in the collection basket at the back of Church.

If you would like to know more about the Foodbank please speak to Emma or myself.
