 This Week’s Notices

Important Notice About Safeguarding: Anyone who has a role which involves potential contact with children and/or vulnerable adults – leaders of study groups, Junior Church Leaders and Welcomers especially, are now asked by St Mary’s Church Council to undergo some basic safeguarding training, which takes place on Saturday 22ndMay from 10am to 1pm. If you would like to attend, and have not yet booked, there are only a few places remaining. Please email Simon requesting a place on a first come, first served basis. Please also note that Debbie Apostolides is our new Parish Safeguarding Officer.

First Sunday Invitation Service Planning: We are planning to introduce themed Invitation Services on First Sundays beginning in the autumn; if you would be interested in helping plan ahead for those, there will be a brainstorming/planning meeting at Church on Tuesday 4thJune at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome: email Simon at [email protected]

Confirmation Preparation: If you are an adult and might be interested in being baptised and/or confirmed, please contact Simon as soon as possible.

First Communion Classes for children aged 7 or up, will take place during the 11am Sunday service from Sunday 8thSeptember to Sunday 13thOctober, with the admission service on Sunday 20thOctober. Please contact Simon if your child would like to be prepared for admission to communion.

One-Off Changes to Regular Worship Pattern: On Sunday 30thJune, our 11am service will be Choral Mattins, in place of Holy Communion. This will be a chance to worship in this form of service that was the mainstay of the Church of England for centuries – it’s the morning equivalent of Choral Evensong. The speaker will be Prudence Dailey, Chair of the Prayer Book Society. Holy Communion will be celebrated in the evening that day.

The Choir’s last Sunday this term will be Sunday 7thJuly(there will be no ‘first Sunday’ style service that month) and there will be a service of Choral Evensong that evening. We shall be saying goodbye to our organ and choral scholars at these services. The summer service pattern will run from 14thJuly to 1stSeptember.

Relighting & Redecoration Project: This major refurbishment project will begin on Monday 8thJuly and run through the autumn, probably to the end of November. In that time, the church will be almost completely out of use during the week and only available for use at weekends. Special arrangements are being made for a weekday worship venue. If you are responsible for anything currently stored in the church or gallery (but not the crypt), please contact David Britten (even if you have done so already) to discuss arrangements for the removal or storage of items currently there by Sunday 16thJune. Items not thus identified will be treated as disposable after this date. Simon Butler.
