THIS WEEK’S NOTICES

Winter Recital Series: The Choral Scholars and the Organ Scholar perform this afternoon at 3.00pm. The concert is free and last 40 minutes. Refreshments follow. Retiring collection.

Tyrone Whiting’s Farewell Concert: This is on Sunday 11th February at 7pm and will include choral favourites and other musical items. Some of our organ and choral scholars will return. The concert will be preceded by a short service of Evening Prayer at 6pm. If you can help with serving wine and nibbles, please let the Office know.

If you would like to contribute to Ty’s farewell gift, please send your gift to the Parish Office marked ‘Gift for by the end of January.

Associate Vicar for Community Development and Mission: This post is now being advertised and we shall be interviewing on Tuesday 20th March. Please pray that God will guide the right person to this post.

Parish Manager/Assistant Treasurer David Britten begins work on Monday 5th February. We shall be advertising for a part-time Parish Secretary (Monday and Friday mornings) shortly. If you know anyone who might be suited to this role, please draw their attention to it.

Farewell to Sunny Walker-Kier: Sunny will be leaving us on Friday 9th February, and we shall say goodbye and thank you to her on Sunday 18th March, when there will also be a Parish Lunch. A collection for Sunny will begin as soon as Ty’s has finished.

Interested in forming a worship band for St Mary’s First Sunday Service? – If you play guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or are a vocalist, and would like to try forming a new worship band to help lead worship at our first Sunday services please let Simon ([email protected]) know as soon as possible. We’d like to get something going for March if possible.

Ash Wednesday: This is on Wednesday 14th February this year – bring your beloved to church on Valentine’s Day! There are services that day at 7am (said) and 8pm (sung). This is an important day to be in church.

Welcomers & Intercessors: We’re looking for a few more people to join both of these rotas. If you can help by joining the team of Welcomers, who assist in preparation for worship and in welcoming people to church, please contact Carol Bailey ([email protected]); if you would like to discuss becoming one of those who leads our prayers from time to time, please speak to Simon.

FaithWorks 18: Forthcoming Events

FaithWorks 18: If you’ve not heard much about FaithWorks 18 yet, please take one of the A3 brochures at the back of church.

Getting Involved in FaithWorks 18: You’ll see from the brochure that there are a number of big events in the autumn taking place under the FaithWorks banner and we are keen to involve a good number of people in helping to plan and run these events. The Congregational Life Working Group will be conducting a simple survey to find out what you might be willing to help with, which will be both online and in hard copy. Please fill this survey out as soon as possible. Hard copies can be returned to the letter box at the back of church: online surveys will be collated automatically.

Lent Groups: Details of our Lent Groups are on the noticeboard at the back. This year we shall be using an ecumenical study guide called The Joy of the Gospel based on the writings of Pope Francis. Our groups will be shared with Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church as part of our FaithWorks 18 preparation. Please sign up at the back indicating which group you would like to join for this five-week course.

Pilgrimage for Peace and Remembrance to Passchendaele in 2018. Please do take a look at the details of what will be an exciting and moving long weekend, 1st-4th June 2018. Full information on the board at the side of church. We encourage you to think about bringing friends with you: they will be most welcome. Today is the last day to express an interest: David Britten will be contacting those who have signed up so far to turn interest into commitment through a booking deposit.

Sacred Heart Lecture Series: The next of these lectures will be on Thursday 15th February at 7.30pm and will focus on the history of the Salesian community in Battersea and of Sacred Heart Church itself. All are welcome.

FaithWorks 18: Martyrdom Day Pilgrimage: This event, which was originally scheduled for Saturday 17th March has been rescheduled to Saturday 19th May 2018. This will be a moving, ecumenical walk of prayer with our Roman Catholic friends around the sites of Christian martyrdom, Catholic and Protestant, in Central London. It will last from about 10.30am to 4.30pm and will involve significant amounts of walking (public transport options will be provided). More details nearer the time but please note the change of date.
