THIS WEEK’S NOTICES

Flowers this Sunday have been donated by Sarah Bryant in loving memory of her parents, Richard and Elisabeth Bryant.

Summer Recitals: Our series of free Summer Recitals begins this afternoon at 3pm, with a welcome return from Ralph Williams (Counter-Tenor), a Choral Scholar at Blackburn Cathedral and former Choral Scholar at St Mary’s. Full details at back of the church.

St Mary’s Fair: This year’s Show and Fete will take place on Saturday 16th September between 12 and 4 pm. We are now ready to start collecting items for the stalls. We are looking for bottles, gifts, books, toys and bric-a-brac in good condition. Please bring your items to the gallery. No Electrical items! Also please sign up at the sheet at the back to help on a stall’.

We are holding a children’s art competition on Saturday 16th September and are keen to get posters and flyers out to as many local schools as possible. The theme of the competition is ‘My view of Battersea.’  If you have contacts at local schools please take some posters and flyers today. They are at the back of church.

Junior Church Over the Summer: We try and give our wonderful Junior Church leaders some time off over the summer while still running a ‘light touch’ Sunday morning group for children. If you can help lead a group for a Sunday from 6th August to the end of August, please contact Cal Alphonse [email protected] or sign up at the back of the church .

SHOE BOXES: Junior Church needs lots of empty shoe boxes to store things in. If you have any, please would you leave them at the back of the church (right hand side on the pews as you come up the steps). We thought there might be quite a few around towards the end of the summer as people buy new school shoes! Many thanks.

Confirmation 2017: Although our Confirmation Service is not until November, Simon would be glad to hear of anyone interested in being confirmed by the end of July.

Contactless Giving Trial: St Mary’s has been asked by the Church of England to participate in a national trial of giving by contactless payments. This was already something the Finance Working Group had begun to ponder so fits in with our planning. We will run this trial in the autumn and there will be an opportunity to offer feedback and to become ‘early adopters’ of what is likely to become a common experience in church. While it will clearly be unusual for many regular churchgoers, many who come to church come without cash and we get requests to enable contactless giving. More details of the project in the coming weeks.
