Dear St Mary’s Members and Friends

Looking to the Future: Special Church Meeting 14th June, 7.30pm

I am writing to you on behalf the Church Wardens, the Church Council of St Mary’s and myself to invite you to attend an unusual and very important meeting.

As most of you will know by now, we shall be saying farewell to Revd. Peter and Alison Wintgens in July. We shall also be saying goodbye to Asi Munisi in September, as her contract comes to an end. What this means, in simple terms, is that the Staff Team will be reduced from 2 priests, 2 lay pastoral ministers and a full-time Family & Children’s Minister, to 1 priest and 1 lay pastoral minister. Needless to say, this will – in the short term – affect the capacity we have to engage in pastoral ministry and child-focused ministry both within the congregation and in the wider parish.

We want to remain committed to these vital aspects of our life together. But in order to do that, we believe that it is right that the church as a whole comes together to take counsel, to share ideas and to pray for God’s guidance. To that end, we want to invite the whole church to gather at a special one-off Church Meeting on Tuesday 14th June at 7.30pm in St Mary’s. We hope you will be able to make this meeting a priority. It will end by 9.15pm.

A Church Meeting is an unusual thing – it’s the first time we’ve had one since I came to St Mary’s. The purpose of the meeting is primarily to take counsel together, to share ideas and to generate a sense of hopeful energy for the future. It’s not – in the first place – a meeting at which arms are twisted to get more involved. It will be the energy that we generate that will persuade us to work together.

I do hope you will be able to join us for this important meeting. If you have any questions or ideas for the meeting please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me (I return from holiday on 1st June) or the Church Wardens.

I look forward to seeing to at the meeting.

Your brother and priest,

Canon Simon Butler
