We shall be saying farewell to Tyrone Whiting, our Director of Music, on Sunday 11th February. Ty will direct St Mary’s Choir for the final time at the 11am service and then, in place of Choral Evensong that evening, there will be a farewell concert, which will also be an opportunity for us to socialise together before the beginning of Lent. Previous scholars and choir members will be coming along too.
The Farewell Concert will begin at 7pm on 11th February, with a simple service of Evening Prayer at 6pm.
We delighted to announce that we have appointed James Potter as Director of Music, in succession to Tyrone Whiting, who will be leaving us by mid-February to take up his post in the United States.
James is currently Director of Music at All Saints’, Headington in Oxford and Director of the Cathedral Singers at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford (who sing when the Cathedral Choir are on holiday). James impressed the choir and the appointment panel with his fine conducting and work with the choir.
James will be welcomed to St Mary’s on Sunday 18th March, and will begin his work at the choir practice on Wednesday 14th March.
We have successfully appointed to the new managerial role of Parish Manager & Assistant Treasurer at St Mary’s and are delighted to announce that David Britten will be taking up the role on 1st February.
David is well-known to us as a member of St Mary’s and co-leader of the Sunday Morning Group. We are very pleased that David will bring his significant managerial experience to the role and look forward to welcoming him to the staff team next year. An early task of David’s will be to recruit a Parish Secretary, who will work Monday and Friday mornings in a more junior role.
The restructuring of the administration at St Mary’s means that, sadly, the post of Parish Administrator ends on Friday 9th February and we will be saying goodbye to Sunny Walker-Kier at some point after that, but the precise arrangements are to be.
We are extremely grateful for Sunny’s generous approach to what is, inevitably, a difficult situation.
